Another gorgeous weekend Friday and Saturday in Melbourne. We took the oportunity to look at more houses and then go to the zoo. The zoo is Sydney's second favorite, right after the park. This time, she got to show me the butterflies before heading to the elephants.
She then got plenty of time to play in the park structure. She saw a merry go round (carroussel) and dared to get on. The courage did not last and she became quote frightened once the horses started going around and up and down. Oh well...soon enough it was time again to go back to the play structure.
Upon leaving the zoo we ran into the aquarium section. There, Sydney got to see her beloved penguins and the seals. Going home was a bit of a challenge. The train had broken down. Luckily we realized this early and could switch to the tram. This way we got to see the city from a different angle. Needless to say Sydney was very tired.
Here the good news. We have a new place, but this is something we will write about in a new blog entry.

Christmas 2009, what an odd feeling to be in Summer yet still see all the Santa Clauses in their warm robes. Well Sydney was not all that excited to sit with Santa. She could only be convinced to sit with "her Mammy" being close. Most of the Australian side of the McMurry / Whatley / Buehlmann family was present. Specifically to be pointed out are Sydney is mesmerized by "baby Noah", who got to see Tyler for the first time.

As most of the times when we are in Brisbane there are two places to go. One is the Australian Zoo (key word: crocodile hunter!) and the other one is the wildlife sanctuary in Currumbin.
We tried the former one, but as we arrived it was not only pouring rain without pity, but we had to park the car in an overflow, muddy gravel parking. Having seen the zoo before, we decided against spending the money under this situation and returned home. The next day we tried the sanctuary. Initially the weather was gray but ok. As we got to the Kangaroos it started to turn into pouring rain again. Sydney was, as always, excited to feed the animals. She spent a lot of time and effort into making sure that all the roos got their share of food. Meanwhile Tyler petted the Emu and said hallo to the salties. At 4pm we hit the peak of rain, just when the Cockatoo feeding started. It was fun...as already in 2005 we all were in rain coats and tried to feed the birds. For Sydney this was the first time and she was at first not excited to have a close encounter with wild birds. Eventually she warmed up to it and was okay as long as there was an adult with her. Tyler had a great time and was the bird's favorite.
re was no rain.

The last full day for this vacation we spent in Southbank in Brisbane. This is another promenade park right at the coast line. Sydney spent almost two hours in the park ("I want to play!"). Only the promise of getting to swim calmed her down when she had to leave.
Tyler, Jill and Leif played in the pool and had a good time. Sydney joined a little later (after the two hours of playing on the park structure). She had to play with her purple pool noodle and also spent a lot of time putting her head into the water. The next step is to get her into swimming lessons. All in all a great day, relaxing and easy going. Today there was no rain.
