In an annual rhythm we celebrate birthdays. July is Thomas' birthday and Christy created an very nice and memorable one. On the actual birthday she made dinner, her famous lemon chicken and topped it with a home made Pumpkin Cream Cheese Pie. That was sooooo yummy.
Sydney was all excited about another birthday event. (She has the sequence of birthdays well memorized and knows exactly who will be next.)
A few days later we met in the Swiss Restaurant (in theĀ Swiss Club, Melbourne). Christy had invited a whole lot of friends we have made since being in Melbourne. Thanks to all who came and sang.

Okay, so the news is out. Christy has bought Thomas the best photo camera ever. For his birthday he got a Canon EOS 550D. A great camera that is somewhere in between a serious hobbyists tool and a device professionals would use.
This pretty much outlines the next challenge, trying to master the different features of th camera.

Already last year we participated at the Swiss parade organized by the Swiss Club of Melbourne/Victoria. This year, too, Christy expressed her interest in participating. The only challenge, during the move between places we had got rid of the lantern.
This meant that dad ended up making another one. We just made a single one this year and as last year let Sydney color it. The outcome can be admired in the pictures below.
On the actual day, August 1st, we met at Federation Square where they Swiss flag flew on the many tall flag poles. The group, which seems to grow each year, walked from Federation Square along the Yarra and back to the Swiss Club.
Upon arrival, the kids got a little nibble to eat and enjoyed running around. Sydney was super excited and loved the fact that there were more girls in her age. Maybe we should be going on a more regular basis and meet them.

This weekend was Sydney's Party weekend. On Saturday she had two and on Sunday one birthday party she was invited to.
Saturday, saw us first at a Fairy place, where Lilani celebrated her birthday. Meanwhile Thomas and Christy had a drink. Upon returning we drove across town and headed to the Yau's where Sofia, Jethro and Gaby's daughter celebrated her third birthday.
Several people from our old church attended making this a very nice event. We got to catch up and exchange news.
On Sunday then, Sydney attended the party of her best friend, Emma P. Her celebration was in the mall which gave Mom and Dad the opportunity to stroll around and do some window shopping.

Saturday again, all the chores are done, groceries for the week have been purchased, and the house feels full of problems with the walls closing in on us. So what better than taking the Sydney, Christy and the camera to head out to the city.
Sydney likes the train ride. After a stop at "our" Starbucks we head for Sydney's beloved park at the Yarra river. This is the first place she got to play after we arrived in Melbourne and she has continued to like this particular park.
As we stroll there, we realize that somebody has let the elephants out. All over the city are elephant statues, similar to the cows that populated Zurich many years ago.
Below some impressions from the city as Thomas continues to try out his camera.
